We ask for certain types of personal information when a Teacher, or a representative acting on behalf of a School, corresponds with us, requests an account, and agrees to the use of our application according to our Terms of Service; this may include a name, school name, school district, school email address and/or account name and password. Once a School or Teacher begins using the Service, the information we collect may be combined with records relating to the School’s or Teacher’s use of our Service.
We use the personal information we collect to operate, maintain, and provide the features and functionality of the Service, to analyze our Service functionality, and to communicate with our Teachers, Schools, and Students, as necessary and appropriate, including:
GradeIt instances and instructor accounts are created by University of Washington personnel according only to information that is necessary for use of the Service.
GradeIt student accounts are created by the teacher (HS courses) or internally by us (UW courses), not the student. If you are a high school student whose School or Teacher has enrolled in our Service, we will not directly collect your information. All high school student data in GradeIt is provided by the high school teacher when creating course enrollment files. We strongly emphasize that teachers should anonymize any student personally identifiable information (PII) through adoption of alternate naming conventions. Student records, including assignments and grades, should be attributed to actual student data by the respective teacher of the high school course. We emphasize that this attribution take place external to the GradeIt application.
Knowledge and consent are required for the collection, use or disclosure of Personal Information except where required or permitted by law. Providing us with your Personal Information is always your choice. However, your decision not to provide certain information may limit our ability to provide you with this Service. We will not require you to consent to the collection, use, or disclosure of information, except as required to be able to supply the service.
With your consent, we may collect Personal Information from you in person, over the telephone or by corresponding with you via mail, facsimile, or the Internet.
The Personal Information collected will be limited to those details necessary for the purposes identified by us. We will use personal information only in ways that are compatible with the purposes for which it was collected or subsequently authorized by the individual. We will take reasonable steps to ensure that personal information is relevant to its intended use, accurate, complete, and current.
Personal Information will be maintained in as accurate, complete and up-to-date form as is necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it is to be used.
GradeIt maintains strict administrative, technical and physical procedures to protect information stored in our servers, which are located at the University of Washington in the United States. Other security safeguards include but are not limited to hashing, firewalls, and limiting access to personal data to employees who require it to perform their job functions. We take all reasonable precautions to protect your Personal Information from any loss or unauthorized use, access, or disclosure.
We will make information available to you about our policies and practices with respect to the management of your Personal Information.
Upon request, you will be informed of the existence, use and disclosure of your Personal Information, and will be given access to it. You may verify the accuracy and completeness of your Personal Information, and may request that it be amended, if appropriate. However, in certain circumstances permitted by law, we will not disclose certain information to you. For example, we may not disclose information relating to you if other individuals are referenced or if there are legal, security or commercial proprietary restrictions.

In order to use the service, an account must be created for you. GradeIt teacher accounts for existing instances can be requested by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Once an account is created for you, you are responsible for your account and any related activity. We emphasize that you create a strong password and limit its use to this account exclusively. As of July, 2019, GradeIt prohibits the design, creation, and implementation of custom assignments and JUnit testing and will not support troubleshooting or resolution in the event that something goes wrong. Utilization of the GradeIt application should be limited exclusively to pre-designed CSE142 and CSE143 assignments.
As of July, 2019, new GradeIt instances will not be created nor supported for the foreseeable future. Existing instances will be minimally supported, and we continue to reserve the right to suspend service and support at any time. However, in the event that service or support around the application is discontinued in full, we will do our best to notify existing users within a reasonable time-frame prior to service disruption (45 business days, excluding weekends and holidays).
